There's a new way to view Chicago. "The Ledge" opened today; its a five-sided glass box 1,353 feet above Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago. It's part of Skydeck Chicago located on the 103rd floor of the Sears Tower. I'll admit, I'm terrified of heights so even looking at these pics made my stomach qweezie. Seriously. Click HERE.

Got $38,000,000 lying around?? If you do, then you can snatch up Alan Jackson's TN mansion for a steal! 135 acres, a lake, 20 car garage, gymnasium, a 20,000 sq foot house and even a landing strip for airplanes! Why is Alan selling? Downsizing. He says he and his family just don't need a house that big anymore. According to Alan, his daughters are older now and spend most of their time in their bedrooms on the computer or listening to their I-pod.

With a house this big, moving into the White House would be considered downsizing! Check out all the pics of Alan's estate - click HERE.

Big events

I've been on the radio for all of my adult life and I learned very early that there are times when you're going to be on the air when MAJOR events happen. I can remember when a tornado touched down about a half mile from the radio station. Or the day the O.J. Simpson verdict came down; I actually held the microphone up to the television to get the news feed. (not totally for sure its legal to hold a mic up to a tv) Then there was 9/11; just thinking about that day literally makes the hair on my arms stand up. It was surreal, to say the least.

Yesterday was one of those days. Two pop culter icons died on the same day. Many of our younger listeners might not remember Farrah Fawcett that well, but she was certainly an icon. I can't tell you how many people I knew had "the" poster of her on their wall. And what an amazing fighter she was; she battled all the way until the end.

And Michael Jackson, wow. I went on the air yesterday afternoon shortly after it was confirmed and made that announcement. Even though Michael was nowhere near country, you can't deny the influence he had over all genres of music and entertainment. Who didn't try to moonwalk at least once? Michael's world notoriety is really hard to comprehend.

Yesterday was one of those days that most people will look back on and say "I remember where I was the day..." I know I will...I was on the air.

I was at Zoofari at the Zoo Saturday night and I got a chance to meet John Schnatter, Papa John himself. He and his wife are big-time zoo supporters. Anyway, I mentioned to him that I loved his new commercial with him delivering pizza in a classic Camaro. Turns out that the car in the commercial is actually his car, but it's a clone of an original Camaro he owned in 1982. He sold the car to fund some crazy pizza business idea he had. Now he wants it back. If you find the original he'll pay you a $25,000 reward!! Now that's cool!! Here's a link with all the details. Click HERE.

Good luck and let know if you find it.

P.S. ...I'm not getting paid to post this; I just thought it was really cool.

Montgomery Gentry

One of my favorite country groups/duos is finally being recognized like they should. Montgomery Gentry was playing the Grand Ole Opry last month when they were surprised on stage by Charlie Daniels who invited the guys to join the Grand Ole Opry. As you can imagine, there were hugs and tears all around. I say ITS ABOUT TIME!! Those guys have been around for over 10 years, with countless hits and awards. Not to mention the millions of albums they've sold along the way.

To commemorate the occasion the guys thought it would be cool to give one lucky fan a HUGE prize pack with Montgomery Gentry memorabilia and Opry tickets.

To get signed up click HERE!

Good luck!

What NOT to wear

I ran across this article on Yahoo and thought I would be a good samaritan and share it with the ladies in our audience. It's titled "10 things a professional woman should never wear". Here are a few things on the list. Crocs - (for the guys reading this) those are those rubber looking clogs; they're usually some really bright orange or green color. I have to agree with this one; I don't understand what women see in those shoes. I know, I know, I'm going to get tons of e-mails from women saying, "but they're soooo comfortable". I understand that but fashion-wise they're a train wreck! Another thing on the list; a hair scrunchy. Now what's wrong with a scrunchy?? I guess you ladies are only supposed to use a good ole fashioned rubber band to put your hair up. Something else on the list; pants with something written across the rear end. COME ON!! What's wrong with this?! I love a good pair of sweats with "juicy" written across the back. ...If my wife is reading this I just got punched in the arm..

Anyway, if you want to read the full list click HERE.

July 4th is just around the corner. How are you going to celebrate?? Fire up the grill?Fireworks? Firearms ...at church?? Now that I have your attention. Yes, one local church is going to hold a service and is encouraging its congregation to bring their handguns in celebration of the 1st and 2nd amendments; UN-loaded and securely holstered of course. The church is New Bethel Church on Valley Station Road. I have a definite opinion on this but I'm not Rush or Al Franken so its not my job to editorialize, but I certainly wanted to bring it to your attention. I DO want your thoughts though - click "comments" above or just send me an e-mail - Shane@NewcountryQ1031.com

Kenny Chesney show

Saturday's Sun City Carnival tour at Papa John's was amazing! I'm not talking about the killer performances from all the artists; I'm talking about the tailgating before the show. We brought our station van in about 8:30a and people were already grillin' and drinkin'!! We were in the Green Lot where all the hardcore Kenny fans were tailgating. I hung out with some really cool baseball players from Fern Creek, some fun ladies who rode in on their own Cardinal party bus (they didn't even have tix!) and even stood on the roof of a real-to-life Kenny Chesney pirate ship (it was actually a 1978 school bus with a deck built of the top and some pirate flags, but who's keeping score? Check out the pic below!) I saw enough grilling brats to feed a small army, enough empty beer cans to supply U of L's Greek Row for a year and cornhole games galore! But most of all I saw thousands of great people just have a good time; partying down American style. For everyone I got to meet, it was great to meet you and thank you very much for listening to New Country Q103.1. For those of you I didn't get a chance to meet, there's always next time.

I'd love to hear your tailgating stories, send them to me.
Any pictures you might have too.
